Last weekend's Kwacha Music Awards in Lusaka, Zambia, have left many musicians wondering why they didn't receive awards. Attendees of the event expressed their concerns about the selection criteria for the winners.
During the awards ceremony, a Copperbelt-based artist even voiced his displeasure over the phone, stating that he would never attend what he considered to be "fake awards."
Among the disappointed musicians was D Bwoy Telem, whose song "Mr Lover Man" gained significant popularity since its release. Feeling that his song deserved recognition, D Bwoy Telem decided to take matters into his own hands. He went to a trophy shop in Lusaka and purchased an award for himself.
After buying the award from the shop, he trashed the organisers of the Kwacha Music Awards for not being fair.
To mark his self-awarded achievement, D Bwoy Telem turned to social media to express his gratitude to his fans for their support of his music.
